I am not sure that this course is for me. What advice would you give me?

We find ourselves having these kinds of discussions with students before the courses. They sometimes feel anxious or concerned. Things like:

  • "I don't wear a scarf, will I be judged?"
  • "Am I sharing my room?"
  • "What will my kids be doing?"
  • "I want to come but can't afford it"
  • "I am ashamed to say don't know anything about Islam"
  • "I can't read Qur'an" etc etc.

Here is one of the responses (May Allah reward the sister)

"I was the youngest participant on the course for two of the three courses I attended. My main worry was not being able to fit in and keep up with the intensity and standards of the course. But Alhamdulillah all the teachers and students were so helpful and accommodating boosting my confidence and my knowledge. I even managed to get top marks for one of the subjects. I think it helped that participants were from all walks of life with so many different life experience's so regardless of your age, ability or whether you're practising or not you can easily fit in. I was Participant of the course in 2003 Islamic studies level 1, 2004 Islamic studies level 2 and 2005 dawah course."

I would like you all to post your advice / feedback to the future participants on these issues (and any more that come to mind). If you had personal experiences or advice you would be willing to share.
