Level 3: Fundamentals of Quranic Arabic (Intermediate)

This is part of the Knowledgeseekers - Winter '11 Course.

 

Level 3 is specifically designed for students who have completed level 2.  Its aim is further consolidate a basic vocabulary as well as a grasp of fundamental grammatical structures utilizing frequently occurring Quranic words so that you capable of understanding and communicating in both spoken and written Arabic. There will be approximately 8 contact hours per day during which 5 modules will be taught.

 

Course Prerequisites

A sound understanding of Units 1 to 20 (Access to Qur’anic Arabic by AbdulWahid Hamid) which includes:

  1. Understanding Nouns, and Adjectives
  2. Pronouns – separate and attached
  3. Prepositions and associated rules
  4. Inna and her “sisters”
  5. Possession – the idafah construction
  6. Root words. Form 1 verbs, past form
  7. The past tense of qala
  8. The past tense of kana
  9. The present Tense
  10. Usage of an Arabic Dictionary

Course Aims

  1. To consolidate and increase the students vocabulary and grammar of the Arabic language.
  2. To deal with the major components of language.
  3. To help students improve their understanding of the Qur’an as it was revealed in Arabic.
  4. To inspire students with the confidence to continue their studies after the course.
  5. To develop the Islamic personality and strengthen interpersonal ties.
  6. To explain the relevance of the teachings to everyday life.
  7. To help realize how to create a balance between seeking knowledge, living that knowledge, spreading the knowledge and serving one’s family & society.

Course content

A sound understanding of Units 20 to 40 (Access to Qur’anic Arabic) which includes:

  1. Form 1 verbs, present form
  2. Irregular verbs
  3. The subjunctive, jussive and imperative
  4. Passive of the present tense
  5. Present tense of qala
  6. Present tense of kana
  7. Active and passive participles
  8. Words from verbs
  9. Forms II to X verbs
  10. Derived patterns of II to X verbs
  11. Conditional Sentences in Arabic

  1. Tafsir – Quranic selections: 1 hr
  2. Tajweed: 1 hr
  3. Quranic selections and Tajweed: 1 hr
  4. Arabic Grammar: 4 hrs
  5. ATQA Workbook Study: 2 hrs
  6. Quranic Style and Themes: 1 Hr
