Level 2 is specifically designed for students who have completed level 1 but who have little or no previous knowledge of the Arabic language. Its aim is to enable you to develop a basic vocabulary as well as a grasp of fundamental grammatical structures utilizing frequently occurring Quranic words so that you capable of understanding and communicating in both spoken and written Arabic. There will be approx 8 contact hours per day during which 5 modules will be taught over the 5 days.
Course Prerequisites
- Must possess sound reading and writing skills of the Qur’anic Arabic script.
- Ideally, student should have successfully completed Level 1 Course or equivalent study.
- Participants will be assessed prior to entry in the Qur’anic Arabic Levels.
Aims of the Course
- To teach students the Arabic language through the Qur’an.
- To deal with four components of language: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- To help students improve their understanding of the Qur’an as it was revealed in Arabic.
- To inspire students with the confidence to continue their studies after the course.
- To develop the Islamic personality and strengthen interpersonal ties.
- To explain the relevance of the teachings to everyday life.
- To help realize how to create a balance between seeking knowledge, living that knowledge, spreading the knowledge and serving one’s family & society.
Course Outline
- Language Study: Grammar – Sarf (Arabic Morphology) and Nahw (Arabic Syntax) with examples from the Qur’an; a lot of the vocabulary taught shall be from the Qur’an.
- Reading: reading by the student and model reading by teacher from different sources; opportunity to analyse and translate Arabic texts.
- Written Communication: Opportunities will be presented to consolidate the students’ grasp of and promote the language through further Qur’anic examples.

A sound understanding of:
- Understanding nouns, and adjectives
- Pronouns – separate and attached
- Prepositions and associated rules
- Inna and her “sisters”
- Possession – the idafah construction
- Root words. Form 1 verbs, past form
- The past tense of qala
- The past tense of kana
- The Present tense
- Usage of an Arabic Dictionary
